Oral Sedation
For our anxious patients, Silver Screen Dental offers nitrous oxide gas or oral sedation in addition to our already relaxed and comfortable environment. We empathize with patients that have bad experiences in the past or just really don't enjoy getting dental work done. The entire team at Silver Screen Dental is committed to making every patients treatment go as smooth and easy for the patients as possible.
Nitrous Oxide
Physiological effects last approximately a minute for a lungful of nitrous and then mainly dissipate. Some residual effects may last up to several minutes later. Nitrous gas permeates the lipid membranes and produces an anesthetic effect. It also increases a persons pain threshold. Dangers of nitrous oxide include oxygen deprivation, nausea, loss of motor control, Vitamin B12 interference and Folic acid interference.
Oral Sedation with Halcion
Halcion is an oral medication that is commonly used as a means to achieve conscious sedation for dental treatment if highly anxious patients. Usual protocol includes a pre-appointment consultation and evaluation. The patient takes no food or water six hours prior to taking the medication and the medication is taken one hour prior to the appointment. The patient must have someone drive them to and from the appointment. After the appointment, the patient needs to be monitored for an additional six hours by a responsible adult.
